Acrylic recycling on my heat press
From preparing my aluminium plates to putting the shredded acrylic in my heat press, watch the process of making new sheets.
First I spray silicone on my aluminium sheet which acts as a release agent when I remove the sheet from the press. I make sure the aluminium sheet is clean then put down a frame which will hold the offcut acrylic.
I pour the shredded acrylic within the frame, evenly covering the surface. I put another aluminium sheet on top and then put into my heat press.
I pump the heat press until the hot surfaces are just touching the plates, this allows the acrylic to soften before squishing. I Iet this sit for about 10 minutes before adding pressure again, this is when the squishing happens. I squish a few times until the acrylic is flat then turn off my heatpress. I allow the press to completely cool until I take the new sheet out, this prevents warping.
Sometimes I have to squish the sheet again to make sure the surface is smooth.
